After months of painstaking work, I am proud to finally reveal my latest painting, titled Making Amends. This piece, featuring two hares nose to nose, has been a deeply personal and intricate journey, and I’m so excited to share it with you all.
The name, chosen from an overwhelming number of thoughtful suggestions, was beautifully suggested by Emma Chamberlain. It perfectly encapsulates the quiet intimacy of the moment between these two hares.
As an artist, I am always looking to push the boundaries of my work, and Making Amends is no exception. One of the most striking aspects of this painting is the incredible detail in the hares’ fur, which took months to perfect. I’ve experimented with a unique combination of pencils and acrylics to capture this level of detail. Using pencils allows me to create the fine, delicate textures in the fur – the wisps and soft layers that give the hares their lifelike appearance.
Once the pencil work is complete, I move to acrylics. This gives me the flexibility to add depth and vibrancy. Acrylics dry quickly, allowing me to layer colours and bring out the light and shadow on the hares, from the softness of their noses to the shine in their eyes. The mix of these two mediums has been instrumental in giving the piece a sense of realism and emotion.
Making Amends holds a special place in my heart. It has taken longer than most of my pieces, but the result is worth every hour spent.
I hope it resonates with you as much as it does with me. Keep an eye out for the final reveal once this piece has been digitally scanned, and as always it will be available to be purchased as a print, or you can contact me to buy the original.
